Really? Port conflicting with itself?

OK; did that (to all of my affected machines, so I would be less
likely to have an opportunity to forget); re-tried "portmaster -ad",
and: SUCCESS! :-)

Roger that.  Already done (for all of the above-mentioned machines),
now that I know about the UPDATING entry.
