Clicking URLs with acroread8

 Does the following command line do the trick on your environment?

  % acroread8 -setenv LD_LIBRARY_PATH=

 The LD_LIBRARY_PATH set by the acroread script often prevents a
 utility invoked in Acrobat Reader from working.
