<shameless plug>

portmanager -u -p -l -y

worked beautifully to upgrade gnome and X.  I did pkg_delete -f gtkmm
for gnome, but otherwise...

Actually, I didn't have anything to do with writing it, I just keep it
working since it DTRT...
