 Tried your recommendation -- deinstall/reinstall py-gtk2 and
 py-gnome2.  No joy.  You remarked that this might be due to
 some misconfiguration on my machine, but this difficulty began
 when I updated the python release and occurs on 2 machines that
 are by no means identically configured.  Of possible interest is
 that a pkg_add -r gramps results in an unrunnable download of
 the "binaries" for gramps -- can't reproduce the error because I can't
 download the pkg for some reason today, but it implies the same lack of
 python bindings.
