i recently got a hp digital camera having a usb interface. it has small
amount of internal memory but also has a 128mb SD (smart-digital) card.
there is a cdrom which comes with the camera which has the windoze
program to retrieve the photos. I also have a small usb reader for the
sd cards. if i take the usb card out of the camera and put it in the
reader, i can gather the pictures. i have not yet tried to gather them
through the camera. the puzzle for bsd will be discovering the device
name to use when mounting the device. it may be (and this is only a
guess) necessary to have the camera connected to the usb port while
starting bsd and watching the installed devices roll by as the start
proceeds. there is some program which captures many of the start-up
messages for later review -- the name is something like 'dmesg'. i know
that with linux the usb storage devices which i have are considered to be
scsi devices or maybe just have a device name somewhat like a device name
for a scsi device.
