impossible --- does not boot!
>Description:
I can install PC-BSD from DVD or USB, but the first boot fails because the system does not find the boot device. Trying to list all available boot devices just gives back an empty list.

AFAIK the Kernel installed is missing SCSI-drivers ...
>How-To-Repeat:
Install PC-BSD from DVD, USB, or CD, then after installation finished successfull try rebooting. The boot device will not be found, because of missing drivers (kernel modules) for scsi-devices (these are included in the kernel booting the install system).
>Fix:
Include the scsi-modules into the kernel installed by the install system.
