Thanks for reporting this. It has bugged me for months, I habitually use htop
to kill the process.
If I recall correctly, gvfsd-trash also often prevents unmount of other types
of file system; not just ZFS.

Back in November:

Ignore that statement. I'm almost certain that the problem occurs without a
start of Thunar.
