How to disable/change Gnome2-6.0/Metacity window minimizing animation?

AFAIK, that functionality has been disabled within metacity code. In
order to achieve lower resource usage, you have to compile it in
explicitly by editing one of the .c files.

I achieved it once; it wasn't much of an improvement.
