Gnome 2.3.1 frozen, can't load desktop anymore..

Yeah.  You might try a portupgrade -Rf gnometerminal.  However,
gnometerminal and nautilus2 don't share anything in common that isn't
also shared by gedit2.  Though it may be two different libraries.  It
couldn't hurt rebuild vte, and see if that helps.
