Was the driver statically compiled in for these tests, or loaded as
a module.  The reason I ask is that I don't see the messages from
the driver loading so it could be that we are seeing interrupts earlier
than we expect, and thus seeing such strange state.  If the driver
load messages appear first (or are masked because this is a module),
then I'll have to try a different hunch.
