Hello!

I'm new to this list so I hope this isn't off-topic. I recently bought a 29160N ultra 160 card, since, acc. to adaptec's homepage, it was supported under linux (I'm using kernel 2.2.14), but I got a problem with my harddisk not showing up as a ultra 160 device (it's an quantum atlas V) at boot. Since then i've been trying to track down the problem to no avail (contacting quantum support, the retailer's support and adaptec's support, looking at possible termination and cable problems but everything's ok). Then I got a question from quantum what driver I'm using, and I thought that it should not pose any problems since this happens at boot, before the kernel gets loaded. But I took a look in the aic7xxx.c file and the readme.aic7xxx to see that my card is /not/ supported after all (yes I should have looked there in the first place). :'-( Hmmm... well the card is detected alright but I'm only worried that the sequencer code that's downloaded at kernel-boot is doing something wron!
g with the card since the driver is not meant to work for the 29160N. Are my assumption correct? What can I do to correct the problem, if so?

As a small sidenote: the card seems to work fine with my panasonic cdr and my plextor cdrom.

Another question: will the 29160N (and I guess the whole adaptec ultra 160 series) be supported in the near future, i.e. is someone working on it?

Best regards

Peter Karlsson
