trouble with DLT 7000 TAPE DRIVER (fwd)

Hello,
  Sorry to bother you with perhaps silly problem !
Working with: PC (2 x pentiumII x 350MHz) + RH linux 5.1 
(kernel 2.1.131) + Adaptec AIC-7890/1 Ultra2 SCSI host adapter + 
"Quantum DLT7000 Tape Driver" (plugged in scsi wide port).  
Problem: cannot read (with dd) DLT tapes written (not by me, not with 
this hardware, but perfectly readable by me with other hardware)    
with 256k sized blocks: all file's blocks read OK but the last one:
while reading this one the command dd falls in "disk sleep" state 
and cannot be killed or signalled anyhow.
