AHA 2940 failure during backup on DAT-streamer

Hi all,
I posted this mailing to the list already, and send it together with
the subscribe mail. I didn't get any response, so just in case something
went wrong when subscribing and sending mail at the same time, may
I put this here once again (or first time, I'm not shure).
I have an Adaptec 2940 AU Controller and in the various ways
I have tried to use it, it never really functioned.
Errors always occur when making backups to an HP-SCSI-streamer,
to be exact errors occur during verify from the streamer.
I have used Linux versions from 2.0.30 through 2.0.34
I used to have an IBM 1 GB disc, now I have a Quantum 3210S 3.2 GB
I checked cabling and termination.
I reduced speed, disabled and enabled disconnection and syncmode.
I used a seperat controller (Adaptec 1502) for the streamer.
Nothing seems to have any effect. Using the controller normally
is ok, but verifying a backup on tape brings always brings up the
same error, which is totally reproduceable.
In the meantime I am using an old Adaptec 1502 controller with no
problems at all, it is just a little bit slow.
Below this is listed what kind of error-messages I get, the content
of the error message varies, depending on the settings, sometimes
it says something about timeouts, bad waiting queus etc. The error
itself always leads to a system crash, sometimes I can still shutdown
the system, sometimes I have to use the power switch.
Any suggustions on what to do would be very welcome.
Thanks in advance,
Christoph Mueller
