5.0.x much more broken than 4.0.x?

Alas, I can't use the aic7xxx files from 2.0.33 because my new 3940AUW
(7895 based) isn't supported by the old driver.. :( Are other people
having the only-hard-drives-are-detected problem or should I seek a
particular problem with my system? The funny thing is: on my 2940UW, there
is no hard drive, just a Scanner and a tape drive and nothing gets
detected at all..

I couldn't find pre-2, just pre-1 on Doug's site.. is pre-1 more recent
than pre-2??
