I had exactly the same problem (as have several other folks). Try
rearranging the cards on your PCI bus. I know it shouldn't matter, but
I think that it matters. When I rearranged, it booted and worked
precisely as advertised where before it hung just as you describe
(11->17 on an onboard aic7881U on the P6DLS mobo). No other change.
