Audit specifications

Since the TrustedBSD project has been primarily working off of POSIX.1E as
a specificaion and moving on from there, there have been grumblings
between parties wrt the audit specification (and other pieces within the
"standard").  I am curious to hear from people on this list who have
implemented an audit system into any OS on the following questions:

	- Did you use a standard to base your work off of?
	- If so, which standard? Pluses and minuses to the spec. used?
	- If not, in what manner did you base your work off of?
	  Personal experience? What others have done?
