No one is using this test suite yet, AFAIK, so this and related commits are
part of my effort to bring the test suite to head, and providing a recipe to
standardize & simplify running the tests for those interested in doing so.

As for disabling tests, the only way to complete the test run is to pre-fail
ones that panic.  If someone is working on fixing those specific bugs, they can
reenable them to test their fix.  See my reply to Garrett for more on this.
