Yeah, thanks .. we have been very lazy about documenting ext2/3/4 and 
the supported features.

No, the ext2 naming is rather historical in that it corresponds to the 
design, not
really the format. The upstream userland tools are still called 
e2fsprogs [1].
Also the ext4 driver in linux now also handles ext3 and ext2.

I recall there was once a mount_ext2fs manpage. I think it was removed 
because
the ext2 driver doesn't have the "old" mount interface.
