bits is correct because it's the plural form of the word, but the
sentence sounds off even with that change.

This sounds better:

"is 11-bits wide, which gives us up to 2048 chunks"

The only question that lingers in my mind, is what does "chunks"
qualify (buffer chunks? chunks of gold? chunks of rocca chocolate
bars? etc)?
