It seems if there was ever a reason to revert a port, this is it.
There are over 100 ports dependent on octave, I would think they would
have to be tested before upgrading octave (every time).

Did you contact maho@?

Maybe he should be the one to revert it, but somebody needs to.  The
situation is bad.
