Just in case it was not voiced before: IMHO, this is a change that
changes vim into something far less usable than before and rams that
down everyone's throat unceremoniously, leaving one with no other
sensible recourse other than maintaining own package build with this
option disabled. It this really something we should be doing to
'attract young talent and look cool', as this supposedly was the driving
force for this commit? Since that talent, evidently, is unable to
configure own editor using one-liner in .vimrc, does it warrant the
sacrifice?
