Let's stop this thread right here right now and both of you, step away
from the keyboard for a bit.  I don't want to see a single email from
either of you for at least one hour.

Both of you have a good point, it's a good idea to group similar commits
to reduce churn, espcially on the email list, Martin is also right that
everybody has their process and it should always be fun(1) to work on
the project.  Personally, I'd rather see a thousand small similar
commit messages that I can easily delete, than read through this thread.
But in the end, it's such a minor issue and we have such bigger problems
to work at, so go out, have a beer/tea/water and come back to read MOTD
on freefall:

"Now, shut up and code.  Really."
