[GSoC'21 Weekly Update #6] Sound mixer improvements

Hello,

Last week I've been mostly refactoring existing code. hselasky@ (my
mentor) said we'll most likely go on with my sound(4) update and push
it to upstream. Now I'm taking a small break for the next few days. :-)
