In the late 1980's The US Defense Intellegence Agency (DIA)
came out withe their Compartmented Mode Workstation (CMW)
specification. Part of that was the DIA Network Security Interface
eXchange (DNSIX) protocol. DNSIX was determined to be unimplemetable.
The SecureWare Corporation worked with the DIA to produce a revised
version, which they called MSIX, and then sold to everyone who
would buy it. Once they'd tapped out the market, they gave control
of the specification (but not the code) to TSIG. TSIG renamed it
TSIX, to remove any propriertary status left over from SecureWare.
Thus,

	DNSIX was the first draft,
	MSIX was the first implementation,
TSIX is the final (so far) specification.
