Thanks, it really was bug 218188; after a workaround, Firefox works just as
well as Mplayer (still with some frame drops) so I can move on to debugging
just graphics.  I'll try CURRENT+COMPAT_FREEBSD12 kernel and drm-devel-kmod as
you suggest.
