You guess it correct. :-)  If I replace the first call with DRM_IOCTL() as
defined in libdrm's xf86drmMode.c, the cursor is back.  Or if I check if (ret <
0) instead of if (ret == -EINVAL), leaving drmIoctl() as is -- this also fixes
the problem.
