Are you launching from a configured hotkey or from ssh?

If not launching from inside the desktop, you need the XDG_RUNTIME_DIR to match.
In a CK2 session, it's /var/run/user/1001 (where 1001 is your uid).

Also, are you launching a native wayland app or an X11 one?

There's a bug with AMD gpus + xwayland < 1.19 that makes xwayland windows not show up, it was discussed at https://github.com/FreeBSDDesktop/kms-drm/issues/33

For GTK apps, run with GDK_BACKEND=wayland to make sure they don't try other backends, that would make the "not finding socket" issue more obvious.
