Bug 236044: x11-drivers/xf86-video-ati GPU lockup
https://bugs.freebsd.org/bugzilla/show_bug.cgi?id=236044
--- Description ---
Occasionally when trying to start X11, just using the startx command for this,
I am left with just a blank screen rather than X11 and my window manager
starting. Also periodically when the display server is running the screen will
blank out and my monitor acts like it is not receiving any signal almost as if
the display server crashed.
FreeBSD version: 12.0-RELEASE-p3
xf86-video-ati version: 18.1.0,1
xorg-server: 1.18.4_11,1
Details on my graphics card from pciconf:
vgapci0 at pci0:10:0:0: class=0x030000 card=0x24601462 chip=0x67191002 rev=0x00
hdr=0x00
vendor = 'Advanced Micro Devices, Inc. [AMD/ATI]'
device = 'Cayman PRO [Radeon HD 6950]'
class = display
subclass = VGA
I am loading the kernel module at boot with the following in my /etc/rc.conf
'kld_list="/boot/modules/radeonkms.ko"'
Other than font and keyboard settings I'm letting xorg autodetect everything at
run time.
