I had the lines
linux_load="YES"
nvidia_load="YES"

nvidia-modeset_load="YES"
in  /boot/loader.conf
and I had 
kld_list="nvidia-modeset"

in the file /etc/rc.conf.
However, Xorg still generates "No devices detected" error message.
