Testing the new i915 driver (rev. 3820047)

Hi,

I continued my experiments on attempting to find a solution for the
problem that the internal laptop screen stays black while external
screens seem to work without problems.

I have the impression that the system properly recognizes the internal
screen but for some reason it is "just" turned off.
E.g., in X11, changing the resolution, orientation, etc. of the internal
screen affects the external screen as can be expected, which can be,
e.g., observed in the placement of the toolbar or windows etc.

While I tried to dig through the code and also changed some things in
different places, I was out of luck so far.
All my attempts are mostly based on reading the dmesg output, trying to
understand what could be wrong, and (unfortunately) a lot of wild
guessing as I am not really experienced with graphics driver programming.

Any hints/pointers of where to look more thoroughly are highly appreciated.
In addition, dmesg and Xorg logs of working laptop configurations will
be helpful.
Especially of laptops for which the internal display is detected as eDP-x.
I attached dmesg and Xorg logs of my system for configurations with
a) just the internal display being used (took these logs blindfolded)
b) the internal and an external (via HDMI) display being connected.
