Quick update: the last version of the xserver 1.14 patch includes an
update to nvidia-driver* ports:
https://people.freebsd.org/~dumbbell/graphics/ports-xserver-1.14.patch

This is untested because I don't have the hardware. NVIDIA owners, could
you please report if it works?

With the xserver 1.14 update, nvidia-driver-71 and nvidia-driver-96 will
be removed because NVIDIA doesn't provide any update to support xserver
1.13+.

Also, please note that nvidia-driver-173 includes support for xserver
up-to 1.15 included. Therefore, it will be removed with the future
update to xserver 1.16+.
