No hardware rendering on Intel 945GME chipset

I have the problem that on FreeBSD direct rendering fails on this 
chipset, but otherwise graphics works.
Kernel model in use is i915.ko

I filed an xorg PR https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=45160 
but this as well might be FreeBSD related.
Is this a known problem? Maybe there is something in i915.ko that 
prevents hw rendering from working?
