 I have the same problem on my first (serious) install of FreeBSD. My 
 Toshiba Satellite L10-104 also has a 855gm. As posted before, there is 
 no usable output when you try to load the intel driver. You have to 
 unplug power.

 I wanted to use mplayer and TV-out, which does not work using the vesa
