Erm, no. Undo that for now - ie. remove /usr/X11R6 -> /usr/local link and put 
X11R6.old back. The link should come in place when portupgrade is done with 
mergebase.sh script as said in UPDATING.
Now, check and tell us the output 
of "pkg_which /usr/X11R6/lib/libXdamage.so.1".
