Beryl requires that certain patches (available here:
https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=8991) be applied to the
xserver tree when the server is built on any of the cards with (recent)
open source drivers.  What card are you trying to get this to work on?

Any relatively new AGP nVidia card should be fine, but I'd suggest
reading the documentation that comes with the nVidia driver to confirm
this.
