bug in mkfontdir?

Right, sorry :) Though this was rather more of a side product of exploring 
possible solution. And it's not so much a workaround as it is reverting a 
change that doesn't seem to quite works out.

Yes, I see no reason to believe that this is anything but bug.

Well, it's easier of course if someone with better knowledge of the problem 
(in this case you :) contacts them as it is then easier to communicate 
possible solutions. As far as I understood you XFree86 works so this would be 
Xorg only bug?

As for ports, I was actually wandering if you could confirm that what I've 
posted works as expected so it can be eventually committed to ports...
