Running X under non-root

 I have no idea which xkb settings in the XF86Config are old, can
someone clue me in?  I need detailed instructions.  Why would this work
fine for root but not my other user?

Remove old xkb settings from your XF86Config -- the default should work
for plain old US usage, then go google for how to properly set up xkb
these days if you need extra stuff.
