We have to change the email only or also the text? When we read
the page we have "Mail Rick Hamell.", maybe "Mail The Portland FreeBSD
Users group" would be better?

Yes, that would be better. Rick suddenly dropped out of sight about
6 months ago and I didn't know if he was interested in continuing
to coordinate or not. I just got a mail from him yesterday
explaining the sudden departure. Eventually he will have his server
up again and his address will come back, but it's better to have
queries going to the mailing list anyway.

Yes, that's actually quite large :-).
I have removed 'small', and it should appear in the website within 24 hours.

Sorry, we don't have any banners in the event section of the website, so
that's not possible.

Adding a sentence regarding Intel's trademarks and registered trademarks per:
http://www.intel.com/intel/legal/tmsymack2.htm

I've included the ones that I've seen used but didn't include everything,
so I don't know if what is listed would be enough or not.

Hello,
I'm hoping that I'm sending this email to the correct address.
I visit the FreeBSD Personal Pages section of the FreeBSD website located
at http://www.freebsd.org/gallery/pgallery.html quite often. I've noticed
that, unfortunately, there are many broken links on the page. I know
the FreeBSD team is extremely busy and keeping this page updated is most
likely very low on the list of priorities. I would like to volunteer
my time to keep the page updated on a continued basis. I'm not sure
if this is something that the FreeBSD team would allow but I would love
to give something back.
Thank you for your time.

Subject: xml schema instead of DTD?
Message-ID: <20031112210612.GA563@jenny.daemon.li>
hi!
as i said some time ago, i am reworking the publications page
(publish.html) on the website - besides updating the content i wrote an
xsl stylesheet and some xml files for generating the page. i was
wondering whether i can use xml schema, instead of DTD for defining the
rules how the xml entries of the publications have to look like.
greets, josef

At the moment the only XML file in the www tree which has an DTD is
events.dtd, and I must admit that the main reason I made that one was to
make Emacs handle tag completion/insertion :-). Therefor I don't think
it critical that the new files has DTD/Schema, but of course it would be
nice to have the possibility to validate the XML file(s) somehow.
Last time I checkked (some time ago) there didn't exist any tool that
could validate an XML file againts a schema, which kind of make Schema's
more or less useless until such a tool exist IMO.
Also I haven't seen any Emacs editor modes that can use schemas, only
DTD's...
If you make a valid schema for the new page then I don't mind seeing it
committed, but I don't think it's worth spending too much time on.

Subject: [review-request] reworked publications page
Message-ID: <20031114103539.GA264@jenny.daemon.li>
hi!
i did an xml/xslt rework of the publications page which i put online for
review at http://www.daemon.li/freebsd/.
i would be happy for feedback - especially on the xsl & xml stuff.
publish.xsl is the style sheet which gets data from books_en.xml and
books_de.xml via publish.xml. why that complicated?
i use this way of getting data from the .xml files so the page can be
easily expanded for example with local books for lets say japanese. just
another entry at publish.xml and a file similar to books_en.xml or
books_de.xml.
i have not finished adding books:
o freebsd: an opensource operating-system
for your personal computer
o embedded freebsd cookbook
o the complete freebsd
o freebsd the complete reference
are still missing. if you know about further books (for example japanese
ones) do not hesitate to email me.
i have not done a DTD for the xml files yet, because i first wanted to
hear your opinion on the current xml code before fixating it through a
DTD or xml schema.
thanks in advance, josef

Hello,
Pardon if I seem intruding, but I just had a similar problem with Epiphany.
I'm wondering if I should open a PR on this, or will discussing this be
enough to find out whether we have a bug?

In my case, I've been struggling with a fresh virgin install of x11/gnome2,
hitting roadblocks every day for almost two weeks. My latest brick wall
was with Epiphany (several logs attached below in the tgz file).
The command I'm using to install the meta-port Gnome2 is:
portupgrade \
--new \
--verbose \
--recursive \
--upward-recursive \
--noclean \
--nocleanup \
x11/gnome2
Remember this is a fresh virgin install.
And I have WITH_MOZILLA=mozilla-devel-gtk2 specified in /etc/make.conf,
along with quite a number of other WITH's for other ports, so that they
would all cover anything that Portupgrade may need to install.
(I manually went thru the long chain, one port at a time, and decided
which features to select and disallow, and put them into /etc/make.conf
-- this is something pkgtools.conf cannot do, unless you want to put
entries for every pkg e.g. "'*' => 'WITH_MOZILLA=xxx'" or similar. But
some of the env-vars must be SET ahead of 'make' time i.e. so that
'configure' will know what to do, therefore make.conf is the place.)
On the first run of the above portupgrade cmd:
Epiphany's configure script did not find other parts of Mozilla-1.6a
it needed, so it branched out to install them. Note that we were
already inside Epiphany's configure script: that is the beginning of
this problem.
The Mozilla scripts correctly installed mozilla-gtk2-1.6.a based on my
setting of WITH_MOZILLA. When returning back to Epiphany's configure
script, some env-var was corrupted at that point -- as shown in the
logs attached, Epiphany was trying to find mozilla-gtkmozembed-gtk2,
which clearly is wrong!
On the second run of the above portupgrade cmd:
I can prove it was the branching out to install mozilla-gtk2-1.6.a
that corrupted Epiphany's configure environment somehow someway.
I invoked the same portupgrade cmd as shown above, after I blew away
the 'work' dir under Epiphany's src/ports tree, to let things start
anew. Guess what happened? Portupgrade came back around to install
Epiphany again, but this time it did not need to branch out to install
Mozilla since that piece was properly finished during the previous run.
This time, Epiphany's env-vars were not corrupted, it properly saw the
prerequisites were installed, and so far so good (it is still running
as I type this msg *sigh*).
Attached is a uuencoded tar-gzip of these three files:
epiphany-1.0.6_config.log (from the first run with the bug)
portupgrade_full.log (the entire first run with the bug showing)
vardbpkg.txt (my /var/db/pkg tree)
(I better not disturb the second run since it's doing fine so far ;)
Thank you for helping on this.
