Re access points...try "ifconfig wlan0 create wlandev ral0"
ifconfig ral0 up (just in case...)
ifconfig wlan0 up
sleep 1
ifconfig wlan0 scan

I have seen it take a second for results to be available, i.e. "up scan" 
returns no list.

Re: errors:
Did you by chance build the module along with kernel or separately?
