My understanding is that EFS should have oneopenown and minorversion=1. BTW on
recent EC2 images I have an "efs" special automount target

Something you haven't mentioned: Is your EFS I/O quota ok? Running out of I/O
quota can make a system extremely slow (especially with a small filesystem
which gets more I/O tokens slowly).
