Nice catch. I want to find out if others experiencing this problem are also
using the same hardware.

The question should not be if I really require usb3, but assuming that is the
problem, why everyone else except apparently FreeBSD can support it, and why
did this problem not manifest itself until FreeBSD version => 12?
