I've been working on this off and on.  It looks like the repeated messages
started with r330957, an ACPI update.  However, the problem with the UPS
started much earlier.  I haven't bracketed that, as lots of the early systems
won't boot, at least multi-user, which makes it hard to test.  It seems to be
before r315272.
