The $1 was expanded (to nothing) when I ran your script to cat it to a file,
but I fixed it at the time.  The latest version runs, but produces no output in
a minute or two.  I am also not getting the debug messages, even after a
reboot.  The current settings from "sysctl debug.acpi" are:

debug.acpi.level: ACPI_LV_INFO
debug.acpi.layer: ACPI_UTILITIES ACPI_HARDWARE ACPI_EVENTS ACPI_TABLES
ACPI_NAMESPACE ACPI_PARSER ACPI_DISPATCHER ACPI_EXECUTER ACPI_RESOURCES AC

I also tried "debug.acpi.level=ACPI_LV_VERBOSITY1"; I'm still getting nothing.
