I am interested in helping to port the USB-capabilities from NetBSD
and OpenBSD to FreeBSD.

Wonderful.  The best thing to do is to email usb at freebsd.org and speak
to the people there.  I've not done any USB development for over a year
now, but there is an active developer base on that list.
