make buildkernel for GENERIC 9-STABLE just hangs, no error

No trouble compiling world, custom kernel, and GENERIC kernel, as of 
r249577, running on amd64 stable/9 r248696.

Try resynchronizing your source tree, rm -Rf /usr/obj/*, and 
recompile world and kernel.
