/etc/daily.local predates /etc/periodic/, somewhat.  It was introduced
in 1996.  Before that, there was just the /etc/daily script, which was
cut over to /etc/periodic/... some time in 1997.

God bless the FreeBSD project's careful approach to compatibility.
