Really? It doesn't work at all for me, never has (on 4.11 and 5.4).

It seems to hang doing something audio related :(

In the end I wrote my own (modifying an example from the  bktr page) which 
uses the Xv extension to get the video card to do the colour space 
conversion. Unfortunately it has glitches like for some reason it will 
randomly lower it's frame rate down to ~10fps and I can't figure out why :(
