When I do a make buildworld I usually do:
# make buildworld > /tmp/buildworld.log 2>&1 &
# tail -f /tmp/buildworld.log
You can roughly gauge the progress by looking at what it's compiling at
any given moment. When it gets to bits in the .../usr.sbin directory
it's pretty close to done.
