This started happening around when there were ata changes. The problem
seems to occur during heavy disk access. I lost the mouse yesterday as
per the previous mail:
Sep 25 09:39:44 netcom1 /kernel: psmintr: out of sync (0000 != 0008).
Sep 25 09:39:44 netcom1 /kernel: psmintr: discard a byte (19).
Sep 25 09:39:44 netcom1 /kernel: psmintr: out of sync (0000 != 0008).
Sep 25 09:39:44 netcom1 /kernel: psmintr: reset the mouse.
Sep 25 09:39:44 netcom1 /kernel: psm0: failed to reset the aux device.
Sep 25 09:39:44 netcom1 /kernel: psm0: the aux device has gone!
(reinitialize).
I had to reset the box.
I'll try another mouse, but I also do have one of those dodgy 686b VIA
chipset boards.
