Serial terminals?
People familar with other platforms / hardware than i386 are usually
familiar with serial terminals. Not only is this the most general way of
doing useful work whenever a new operating system is in its infancy on a
new platform, it is also a reliable and easy way to get debugging info
"out" of the platform when needed.

I find that people with only experience from the i386 platform, and no
experience with serial terminals are the odd ones.

Just my 0.02$.
